Murder accused found not guilty

 

Mark Heywood QC (No. 5 Chambers) and Mark Nicholls successfully defended a 24 year old man accused of murder following a 5 week trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

The case gained national and international media coverage throughout due to its high profile.

Following the 5 week trial, the defendant was found not guilty of murder.

The co-defendant was convicted of murder and sentenced for life with a minimum term of 24 years. The defendant was convicted of allowing the death (by not doing more to stop the co-defendant) and received a reduced sentence of three and a half years.
