Couple cleared of assisting an offender in alleged manslaughter

 

Mark Nicholls and Stephen Rudge successfully represented a Stafford couple who were cleared following a three week trial at Stafford Crown Court of assisting an offender who had been accused of the manslaughter of man.

The case against the pair (and one other) was that they conspired to cover up the circumstances of an altercation which led to the death of a man.  The defendants maintained from the outset of the case that what happened was entirely different from the allegations made by the prosecution.

The case preparation required detailed consideration of many thousands of pages of telephone records and lengthy CCTV evidence.  The detailed preparation led to important evidence being recovered which assisted in presenting the case for the defendants.

Following a trial which lasted three weeks, the jury returned unanimous verdicts of Not Guilty and acquitted the pair of any wrongdoing.
